Yes.

That's the only way to make use of NVDI features on the screen.

Possibly. I have never had that problem here, but then again, I've never tried disabling the off-screen drivers. ;-)

The main thing about the new palette is that it simplifies colour dithering. I've not yet implemented those NVDI5 functions in fVDI.
