Yes, the STE can access 16MB. I dont know why they limited RAM to 4MB, but they just did... Obviously its some thing to do with the memory layout, but I dont have that to hand!
As for the Marpet +8, I have one and its great.
What it does, is add 8MB to the STE, thus giving it a max of 12MB.
This compares to why a 16MB Falcon only does 14MB I suppose? they seemingly deliberately made it 12MB Max on an STE for similar reasons to the 14MB Falcons maybe?
I also know that marpet were not the only ones to make such addons, and the other was only 8MB too ( 12MB Max with the ST's own 4MB )
