Hi.
I just use outside when I have scans to do. I'm scanning .tif-files which need a lot of memory as my scanning software loads them into ram and is not able to write the data directly to disk.
You are certainly right when you say there is normally no need for such amounts of ram. Before I got the scanner I didn't even need my fourteen megs of real ram. I would have done with about six or eight megs.
