A 15" TFT can be had for under £200 now and is of course more portable and less power hungry, but an equivalent CRT is cheaper still. It's up to your requirements and budget. I know some guys are using Falcons in VGA mode on TFTs with no complaints, it depends on personal preference and perception. Some people swear they can't see differences between the two types (view angle, colour rendition, response time...). The VGA adapter you can buy ready-made from a few dealers, but don't be surprised by the cost, as they have to be hand-made in small batches which is very time-consuming (I had to solder a new plug on a VGA cable only last week and it's no fun I tell you). If you're handy with a soldering iron you can find a schematic on the internet and do it yourself. Cost no more than a few (less than five) pounds/dollars/whatever in parts.
