I would stick with a CRT if I was using a ST/STe.
I've tried using NEC and Samsung monitors, and each have their own flaws. My NEC doesn't like to save its settings. So everytime I turn on my STe, I have to hit the "auto adjust" to position the screen correctly and reduce the artifacting (although some is still there, it's only on the desktop. You don't notice it if you have a solid color background like in Notator or Cubase) Also note that the ST's vertical resolution is 400, not 480. So you'll have a big border on the top or bottom of the screen. Minor annoyance I guess, but I guess I can live with it for now.
Stay away from Samsung. The screen is shifted to the right, and I tried all the adjustments, but the screen couldn't be centered. Fewer buttons->cut corners ->cheaper->stay away! Who knows what other corners Samsung cut to keep their prices so cheap.
My studio is so crammed that I had no choice but to use an LCD screen. I wish those short-depth AKA short-neck 17" monitors were still being made! But if you have room, I'd stick with the CRT. You get a much better screen and it's cheaper.
