The m68k was also the mainstay of the early microprocessor UNIX industry. Both SUN, Apollo and HP made 68000 based UNIX workstations and servers, along with lots of other less well-known companies such as Luxor or DIAB.
There was also the Swiss GUI pioneer Smaky, do a Google if you're interested.
In Japan, the lads who would be using an Amiga or ST used a Sharp X68000.
Oh, and I once dismantled an aluminium can recycling machine, which contained several 68000 and 68008 processors.
