If you desperate to format your hard disk, and you do not find any other methods, you also could expose your hard drive to a magnetic field (a non-magnetic-field-proof loud speaker for example). This action will erase every data on your hard disk !
You may be able to format it properly after such treatment. This action is usefull as well to strech a few the life-time of an old floppy disk containing bad sectors... But there is no warranty at all.
