Yes, always go back to basics.
Get rid ( just disable rather than delete ) anythign like Auto Folder Apps and ACCessories etc, and definitely MiNT, and build your setup back up from there!
Hopefully of course, with nothing in the system messing things about, it will all run, however, if it does not, then dodgy RAM is very likely to be a cause.
The FPU makes no difference what-so-ever! its only used by a small number of apps, if you have one, great, if not, so what?
Magic/Jinnee - As has already been said, there is no better combo, just do it, and ditch MiNT. Its way, way faster than MiNT.
