 Subject: 800xl logic riddle

i took out the 800xl this morning inspired by a demo of the atari 8 bit computer. Put in this code in basic 10 let a=1,20 a=a+1, 30 print a, 40 goto 20. The purpose it will count from one till .... 1,2,3,4 ect.Suprisingly got 1,2,4,16...expotential. Any ideas?
