Hi.
Sounds more like a dead diskdrive?
If you do have another ST you could
try swap drives between them,
then you´ll have 2 answers:

1) Does the suspected drive work in the working ST?
2) Does the working drive also work in the "dead" ST??

My best guess - It´s the drive! :p
