I haven't tried changing the roms, but when I had my STe opened, I noticed that
there was two roms, in my case TOS 1.06 Hi and Low. I don't know what happens if you switch hi and Low, but try switching the roms between the two sockets.

it MIGHT work.. I say might because I haven't tested it myself.
