is this one of those really old st's with the drive with the large eject button in the middle? i know they had some extra circuitary in them. if so - there should be the ribbon cable with 2 rows of pins like on the ste - which then goes into a small board and then this goes to the drive. if so - pull the whole lot out! i've never heard of a single row of pins on the ribbon cable - but i have always managed to put a pc drive in any st - no matter what age. if you have an st with a single sided drive - you can just simply replace it with a double sided drive...
