Hi
Yes, the 80ns ram cards are supposed to work fine (thats whats in my ste). Upgrading the memory to 4 MB can offer some very useful system enhancements making work with an ST both faster and more rewarding. These include: 1) Some games will load files / data into memory and access these from memory rather than from the floppy disc drive. This is faster & much more convenient and can save you from repeatedly having to swap discs. "Obsession" makes good use of this. You do not have to lose compatibility with other games that require 1 MB memory or less. There are available TSR progs that allow you to configure your 4 MB Atari to recognise only 1 MB when necessary. 2) You can create a good sized Ram disc and load files / data into it for faster access. This makes for much faster smoother working with some serious apps especially if you don't have a hard disc attached to your Atari. Was recommended for users of Timeworks DTP. In fact you can create Ram discs that automatically load on boot up ready with your chosen prog / files to run. 3)You can load various system enhancing utilities into memory to uprade your system or accessories to run alongside your main progs - and still have plenty of memory available for files. eg.: NVDI which speads up screen display and supplies access to vector fonts. Or add multitasking and a faster OS with Magic plus very fast file management / copying with Kobold - and then add NVDI to that to create an extremely useful atari system.
AND SO ON.
regards
