Hi !

The ST could read PC floppies as far as the ST floppy drive is in addequation with the floppies format. In other words, you should be able to read any PC 720Ko floppy with any ST but you could only read 1.44Mo floppies on custumized ST (1.44Mo drive and electronic operation inside the case to patch the new drive).

Problems :
You use Windows XP or whatever and you don't know how to format a floppy in 720Ko. Microsoft removed this option since XP from the format box. USE DOS command FORMAT with appropriated options (see DOS help on the FORMAT command).

You only have 1.44Mo floppies and none 720Ko. That is hard to find 720Ko nowadays. So use a piece of adhesive tape to mask both side of the square hole of the 1.44Mo floppy. Not the hole with the write protected gear, but the other one. Your floppy is ready to be formatted in 720Ko as describe before. PLEASE FORMAT IT TWICE OR THREE TIMES before using it to store data. The 1.44Mo magnetic field format remain strongly !!!
Your 720Ko is ready to transfert your midi data.

To format a floppy from a ST to be usable on a PC, use an appropriated software else than the ATARI format box.

More details ?
See in this forum previous "articles" on the subject, there is plainty.
