Hey Marko,
Yes, Diamond Edge, while create for TOS is catastrophic when used with long file names under MagiC or MiNT.
OPTIMIZE.PRG (archive called HP_OPT29.LZH) is probably the best bet. It is public domain, stable and difficult to obtain the new release of... http://www.place2be.de had the following posted to it (which I have roughly translated):
Goup: Maus.Computer.Atari.NewsID: A3399@SU2Wg.: HP_OPT29.LZH
By: Herbert Framke @ SU2 (Mi, 05.01.00 06:27)
MId: 200001050627.a3399@su2.maus.de Programm-Name: OPTIMIZE.PRG
Archive Name: HP_OPT29.LZH
Program type: Defragmentierer, (Fest-)platten-Optimierer
Author: Hans-Peter Vetterr
Copyright: Public Domain
Cost: None
Current Version: 2.9
Hardware: ATARI (all), resolution independent
Software: all TOS compatible operating systems
Download: MAUS SU2 (02241-946209)
Features: - Fast
- Logfile possible
- Reste bzw. Stromausfall sind unbedingt zu vermeiden! (Hmmm...)
New in Version 2.9:
- For log. Check will test the Cluster-Chain and also Directories.
- There is now a German and an English version of the program.
- This is likely to be the last Version of this Program. (AG - This means contact the author and encourage further development of the package! Even though it is free, tell them that you use it, like it and want to see further features!)
The question is how to we get a copy, I can't find it on the Web and it has only been uploaded to MAUS Net. Can anyone out there that uses this facility upload it to their website or to an FTP site?
Hope that is useful,
Anthony

Hi!
What's the best proggy to optimize harddisks under MiNT 1.15.5 with long filename partitions. Tried out the Diamond Edge 2 and wiped my partition :(
