The pricing on certain machines (like the Falcon) are NOT based on the machines current usefulness as a computer but as a "collector’s item" and a "status symbol" within the community. Just like ANYTHING that is rare and still in demand, the price goes up, this is the way of things.
Though the company is dead as a hardware maker, the spirit of the systems still lives on as a pastime or hobby for hundreds of thousands of people WORLD-WIDE to this day.
Can you show me ANY-OTHER kind of specific topic/person/anything? that has over 1000+ unique websites dedicated to it?
That fact alone speaks loads about how people still feel about Atari.
