If the 1040ST's are STFM's then sure you can, but if they are STE's then no they will not be usable in the Mega ST 2 (not Mega STE).

You must be aware that the six chip ROM set has different "link" settings on the motherboard. Near the roms will be some pairs of semicircles at the end of the PCB traces. There are two of these pairs near each other, one marked 1M and the other marked 256k. In total there are three groups of these on the board around the ROM area of the PCB. Sound confusing?

Okay in total there are 6 pairs of semicircles separated by about 0.5mm which are linked with a drop of solder. Using two chip ROM sets all the 1M links (three in total) should be made with solder and the solder removed from the 256k links. Using six chip ROM sets all the 256k links (three in total) should be made with solder and the solder removed from the 1M links.

Make sure you get it right because some people have been known to damage their machine getting it wrong. All must be on 1M or all on 256k, remember this!

Cheers,
Anthony
