Maybe I would be better of buying a new drive. I would think that a 40G one would cost 120Euros or close. However would a new drive connect to the Falcon? And since I only have 4Mb of ram are there many things I can do with a revived system? Could I for example run some linux software through mint or another alternative os?

My apologies for misinterpreting your question.
A 2.5" IDE drive will work in the Falcon. However, a standard Falcon can only access 14 partitions of 1GB each, so drives over 14GB are partially wasted. There are ways around this, but with a 4Mb Falcon, I'd advise saving your memory.
Unfortunately, 4Mb of RAM is not sufficient for Linux or MiNT in most cases. Geneva/NeoDesk would be a better choice if you desire an improvement over basic TOS.
