Better? Ethernet would certainly be faster. I do plan on adding ethernet eventually.
Anyway, my concern was with having a room full of LocalTalk compatable machines... then this odd duck which I cannot betwork to them. The question is not "what is the fastest LAN connection", but rather " I already have this port here, why the hell doesn't it work?"
I like to recycle old tech, so making maximum use of the original hardware interests me. Also, many ST / TT enthusiasts use their machines mainly for music- something which is also true of Mac users. Also, the files I'm shuffling back and forth are MIDI and applications; we're talking about hundreds of K at a time - the extra speed and throughput aren't needed for my purposes, but would of course be welcome.
So rather than such people building or buying more elaborate hardware for an old computer, it is more economical to implement a little coding which enables us to use what is there. I wish I had the skills to do it myself!
