If LAN port on Falcon is the same as LAN port on Mega STE then you could set baud rate, parity check and other stuff from your serial accessory or cooky.
In fact in Mega STE you have to choose between LAN port OR Serial 2 plug. The same controler is used but all signals are redirected from one plug to another. So LAN port is set the same as serial 2. You only have to switch a register to tell the Mega STE which plug to drive the signals.
The SCC componant just allows higher speed for serial 1 and serial 2/LAN than for modem 1 which uses an older componant whose maximal speed is 19200 bauds.
