Ebay is indeed where I recommend one procure a Mini-MacMan, I have seen them often. I just lost out on a DaynaPort SCSI/ ethernet adaptor yesterday. Better luck to us next time! Come to think of it, there usually are not many differences between MIDI interfaces. If I can check out a mini MacMan myself, I can probably figure out which other interfaces would work with those drivers. Do those drivers work with Cubase only, or also with other MIDI apps? I'll research further.
Exactly, the SoundPool hardware sounds ideal, but I seldom see the stuff for any kind of modest price. I did see some about two years ago when I hadn't the money for it. I have built MIDI interfaces before, which is easy. One of these days maybe I'll learn how to write code for serial/ MIDI! Then people could just use an Opcode or MOTU 8/8 unit for mac serial, and pay only a small amount for the hardware. One of these years!
