If you have anything that runs under Stienberg's M_ROS....I.E. CuBase....
There is a driver for that LAN port as is...no hacking.
It communicates with quite a few MIDI devices designed for the older Mac systems.
I.E. Mac Midiman. There's no official list that I know of stating things tried and true, tho' it seems an awful lot of them work. Plug'um in and try.
On mine, I have a MIDI patch bay: Anatek SMP-7
The Anatek is a 7 in 8 out MIDI patch bay MIDI in/out 1 can come from standard midi cables, or via the MacTalk port.
The only 'catch' to this setup is....you can't plug the LAN cable into the Falcon till after it's booted and M_ROS is running. No idea why, but having it plugged in before hand will freeze the system during boot.
The advantage to using the LAN port on the Falcon with this is:
You get an extra assignable in and out inside CuBase. Needless to say the assigns and dual MIDI processors in the SMP 7 are really nice as well ;)
SMP 7 also offers a slew of MIDI to SMPTE sync abilities as well. This baby will lock to timecode even with sequencers that have never heard of SMPTE (using song start/stop, and positions defined in the MIDI standard) ;).
I found mine on Ebay by total accident a couple years back. I didn't even know the MacTalk part of it existed till I got it home. Plugged the thing in and discovered it WORKS. What a treat :)
I understand there is a driver for WaCom graphics tablets than can also work on this port.
Also...with HSMODEM, and a Serial CPX that you can find in the STing networking archive, you can drive the LAN as a serial port. Some rewiring required (usually by simply hacking the cable you will be using).
