Using the Commodore monitors on the 8-bit Atari’s is a common thing. No hardware hacks are needed.
In fact, if you have a 130XE and the 3 wire Atari monitor cable that has separate Croma/luma and audio lines you will be treated to the BEST picture available. If you have one of the better Commodore monitors like the 1802s, you can set the switch on the back of the monitor to COMPOSITE video also then switch to a composite monitor cable and see for yourself how much better the separate croma/luma/audio cable setup is. In this mode, the monitor can also be used as a TV, if you hook a VCR to it.
