Well, this isn't quite the same, but it runs on my ste @ 16mhz + cache (at a much better frame-rate!), which indicates that the game engine isn't dependant on timings.
Therefore, it should run on a higher-end machine I would think... at least, the reason it will crash on a high-end machine won't be because of timings ;-)
If you want to see another first-person engine with texture-mapped walls etc running on the ST (and it does run on higher machines), you should have a look at the wolf3d port in progress by ray of .tscc
