It's kind of a sad story. Dave lost a lawsuit over some defective parts and had to liquidate Gadgets to help pay the bills. In the process, he and Sandy divorced.
I read a post from him a few months back (search www.deja.com) where he mentions this. He was (and is) a very nice person, from all accounts.
