It's been quite a while since I actually used GhostScript, but I don't remember even having to set up configuration files (but I could be wrong). Although it wasn't the most obvious program to use - I remember that much. I'll see if I can pull it up and see what's going on with it, and get back to you. At one point, I think I had it to where I could either drag & drop a pdf file onto it, or set it up as an "Installed Application" for the pdf and ps filetypes, and it worked. The trickiest part for me was getting it to print. The print dialog (I had the GEM version, by the way) wasn't exactly self-explanatory.
