The price I got was 44 euros for a ready thing, plus 2 euros for a joystick extension cable. So 46 euros plus shipping. Add a mouse to that, at least another 20 euro and you have a not-so-cheap replacement mouse. On the positive side, you can pay via paypal so no discusting bank tranfer fees (and struggle).
If you're handy with the solder iron, but can't program the pic-chip, he sells the pre-programmed pics at only 7.5 euros. Which opens up for a very much cheaper converter (especially if you use a stripboard).
A friend of mine calculated a bit, and I think he managed do a small-quantity serie at around 16 euros (parts including a prof. made pcb) plus job (add another 12-13 euro). And it would be small enough to fit directly to the Atari mouse port in a normal 1040 case. However he can't order peices without people prepaying which to say the least is a little risky without even any prototype having being made (no idea if it will work).
I'll be back with more infos when/if there will be a small production run from my friend.
