Yeah, thats true!
I cadged hold of a whole load of 1GB & 2GB DRrives that area all in perfect working order, and will they work on an Atari?
No they will not!
I tried them in a PC and they are all working ok, although to be honest, some SCSI Cards didnt want to know!
I have been through the jumpers ( fair play, there is more than just a couple! ) and nothing seems to help?
They are IBM made, but they are HP Drives, and with a lot of PC hardware, HP stuff often only works in HP systems - Deliberately, so that may also be the case with the Atari?
Other times too, is when certain drives will work on the TT's SCSI line, but not through the ST DMA... Slight differences in the SCSI translation causes that... CDROMs can do that too!
So, I agree... I too cannot say with 100% conviction either!
Only ones I have had that have not failed so far, is Quantum Drives... All the ones I have had are good for Atari, on both TT and ST lines.
Oh, just for your info, I have had a peek at whats in my TT right now.
Quantum 270
DEC DSP 1.0GB
IBM ( HP ) 1.2GB ( Yes, one of the naff ones )
Seagate 1.8GB
Seagate Cheetah 10.2GB
SyQuest 44MB ( Dont think its ever used? )
Zip100
Pioneer DVD ( Yes, they do, and no they dont )
NEC 4x CDROM
Plextor 4x CDRW ( Never burnt a thing - yet )
Obviously a mixed bag, but they are all just temporary until I can actually sort it all out.
I think the DEC is on its way out, cos it sometimes wont boot, and has hung on me a few times, the 1.8 Works lovely on the DMA line so that will almost definitely go into the STE, and the Cheetah is also dying... Its been given hell in a PC but in an Atari the work load is much lighter, so should last long enough till I get a new smaller HD.
