Does it have to be SCSI?
Cos the Falcon has IDE built into it too... an IDE drive might be a tad cheaper for you.
With SCSI, you need...
1 - SCSI Cable from the Falcon to the HDCASE
2 - SCSI Cable for the HDCase
3 - HD
4 - Erm HD Case
5 - SCSI HD
With IDE you will need
1 - IDE HD
Nuff said I think?
SCSI cables etc cost a hell of a lot... Unless you luck out, you are looking at £20-£30 per cable
Depending on how you do it, you could use an old PC AT Case, this way will allow you to also add CDROM/s of course, but the internal cabling will be expensive as hell.
You may be able to find an old SCSI enclosure of course, and this will hopefully have the cables etc that you need anyway, but may not be able to accomodate the CDROM?
Either way, the SCSI way is going to cost you
The IDE way, will only cost you an IDE HD, and thats all.
Ok, so while it is possible to fit a 3.5" Drive in, you are really going to be looking for a 2.5" and as these are expensive, what you will really need is someone who just happens to have one lying about doing nothing. You also dont need to waste money on a large one, as the Ataris are not like PCs... They are very good with storage.... I recon a 500MB to 1GB one, would be absolutely fine... By the time you do want more, you will know enough to get hold of the rest of the kit for yourself!
I have an old 850MB IDE Drive upstairs if you want it? I wont say if it works or not because I simply do not know. However, it was pulled from a laptop and at the time it was pulled, it was pulled purely because it was too small and had no bad sectors, so I assume that it will be ok?
That would be a lovely size for you I recon?
I can happily supply you with a copy of AHDI too... I think thats pretty much all you will need really!
