I've never seen a bad IC on an Amiga(!) either even though I've owned them for years. I was thinking it was unlikely.

The controller chip (I think), laying under the cable is labled WDC. Nothing that said AJAX.

The old floppy kind of works sometimes, Various errors when I try to format, like the device is not responding or not sending data.

Now I will track down an old low density floppy. Could I use an Amiga one?

I'd hate to give up on this because it is MINT and looks rather nice next to my A500.
