Yep... It`s deja vu for me as well. Well it`s a bit different this time, as these people need to bring out a product. Unlike the previous owners who saw IBM compatibles as their priority and collapsed to pressure of Dominant Companies. (President) Bill McEwen and Fleecy Moss (that were both fired by Gateway and said it was due to pressure from M$ on Gateway) bought the company.
Sadly ex-president Jim Collas sold all his 10 million USD Gateway shares and nothing has been heard from him since. But he has made clear that he is not allowed to speak about what happened. :(
Well to make confusion complete there are actually three projects going on in the Amiga Community.
1) Amiga/Tao project - Most probable to succeed into becoming a succes due to their remarkable strategy and supported standards. Many famous and respected Amigans are working on this project.
2) QNX/Phoenix Consortium project - A super efficient and powerful multimedia OS. QSSL ported the Linux version of Unreal Tournament and Quake 3 to Neutrino in just one week to prove the easiness to port due to Posix compliance. They are working with more than a hundred Amiga developers to make it a succes. (QSSL was Amiga`s partner for the new Amiga but Gateway broke the deal at the last minute.)
3) AROS/Open Amiga Foundation project - Making a portable, free AmigaOS clone for a variety of hardware platforms and CPUs. But very unlikely to penetrate the mainstream market. Amiga supports their efforts as well.
