Yes, the 1x4, etc. is Megabits , (and layout), of the chips, so like ray says... 8 chips at 4Mb per chip is 512KB, since 1MB=8Mb.

I think those Samsung "KM4?C1000"s were all 8 chip modules!? 7ns of course.
