The Midinet idea was fine by the way... I thought this idea some time ago, and at the time, me and a mate had 286 PC, and I had a couple of STs ( This is going back a fair while isnt it? )

For file networking between two Ataris, there was the very good Littlenet, which simply required MIDI cables. Unfortunately, Littlenet doesn't multitask well, and requires HD partitions < 32 MB, so it's not that useful for "power" Atari systems. It's still has some application for lower end systems, though.
