that's true but like already mentioned by paranoid, you'll need a boot-disk in order to be able to use the ide-drive at all (unless your machine isn't equipped with tos 2.06 - just like your machine).

...it gets connected to the mega-bus on the atari side while the board itself plugs in to the ide-drive (an additional wire then taps into the internal asci-connector, a power cable is also required - so there isn't any soldering involved, except for actually building the thing itself :).
concerning the circiut a GAL must be programmed for decoding the ide-registers address range and generating a DTACK signal...if you don't have access to any GAL-programmer plenty of TTL will be involved to build a decoder acting equally, i assume.
