about atari programs not supporting true color: true but the ACP GUI will certainly be able to have virtual resolution and color depth when running GEM apps. i don't agree with the matrox card. just get a PC/104 if you desire something like this.
both alpha as well as 30 bit would be nice, but i won't die if both are missing from a graphics card. btw, i meant alpha is for games and demos (and websites) mostly, certainly not for apps. it's something purely aesthetic and for special fx (-unlike- 30 bits color).
i do agree that for games it's better to get a console.
the DEESSE used a fast DMA design that allowed it to transfer at high speed to the host interface. or maybe it was more, i could have forgotten. that plus it's hardvard architecture with fast SRAM, -certainly- makes it faster at JPEG/MPEG coding than the coldfire. you seem to be confused with the falcon dsp interfaces..

anyway, a 56321@240 MHz might now be a better option. or maybe even a analog devices blackfin (cheap), since this is quite similar to the 56K series and very fast. i am a big supporter of a dsp card, because dsp's are tremendous fun to program and they are cheap and very efficient. although that's true i admit good CPU and operating system are more important than a killer dsp. in the worst case i'd even settle for a PC audio card.
