The problem with getting it to work with a modern Windows PC is that Windows doesn't allow the use of non standard resolutions. If you can find out the exact frequencies the SM can handle then perhaps you could have some luck with linux, as Xwin allows you to create specific graphic modes, which you'd have to set up first using a normal monitor.
You would also need to make an adapter cable to allow you to connect it to the VGA out of your PC. Unless you are doing it as an end in itself it wouldn't really be worth it since PC software these days is desinged with the assumption it'll be displayed in far higher resolutions than the SM can handle. Even if it worked youd be scrolling like crazy in *any* GUI.
