I don't see why ACSI is so important. TOS 2.06 supports IDE devices, it can be used in any ST. There are IDE controllers for the ST that includes 2.06. The IDE interfaces can then run a cheap IDE harddisk or a compact flash card with an IDE adapter.
I personally don't see the use to re-invent the wheel. But if it's for fun rather than real use, why not, go ahead..
