From the cutaway in image1 it looks like there is no internal PSU, likely an external 9v pack. The easiest way would be to open it up and have a look inside. There should be a 7805 regulator, but you will need a PSU capable of delivering about 750mA or more, in experience these drives don't work too well with much less doing things like jittering when revving up.
