Sounds a bit like when you put the drive cable the wrong way round on a PC. Is the new drive from another ST?

Are you getting no display at all?Not even a blank white screen?

Have u anything else plugged in to the ST?

Have u given it a shake to make sure their is no lumps of solder for example causing a short circuit?

What about a burning smell from any chips?
