I don't wuite understand what you mean by switchable. You can use BOTH 720K and 1.44 disks in the drive!!!
Also you CAN use HD in pre TOS 2.06 systems... I have one in my Tower STE which runs under 1.62/2.06, and have also had it running under 1.6. You must have the software for it though.
And saying that, I have also found that with TOS 2.06 I find it more stable using the software as well.
