Hi Flash
I don't believe that the PCMCIA card reader is gonna help you with memory problems. The card is more like storage then memory, even though it's a "memeory" card.
In other words you should think of this as just another "hard disk," although much smaller. IBM even makes a midget hard drive that fits into one of these adapters
and would probably work just fine, although I don't want to be the first one to check it out. I transfer data from my Hades to my Mac with these cards. Their so small and light
that's its extremely easy to do. Doesn't hurt that I have two of them so I don't have to switch adapters.
The cheapest I've seen the card readers is the Minolta at $94 bucks. But most of them run
around $150 for the SCSI versions. Parralell and USB versions are
cheaper but of course for an Atari you'd need special software.
My only advice to you would be that if you have a digital camera that uses flash cards or Smart media or
ATA cards AND the camera saves its files in TIF or JPG then buy the reader
to download to your camera. At that point you can try anything you want. They
make CD ROMS, Modems, all sorts of things for these gadgets but the only
thing I KNOW WILL WORK is downloading the images from
digital camera's. The flash ard adapter is about $15 and will work with any FLASH CARD. The
smart media adapter are about $60 and MAKE SURE IT can handle the capacity
of your cards!
