As a general rule mint has to be the last program on your auto folder. Which version of mint are you using? I am no mint expert but your problem seems very strange and I ve never heard of it before. One note I can make is that you should make sure you use the proper mint for your machine, and I don't think the position of mint in the boot sequence might have anything to do with it.
