Hi, there!
-Making some unfair comparitions here, aren´t we?

Well, to get a fair comparition in that case, lets put it this way:
how many Milan II:s do you get for the price of the most "advanced" ibm-clone??
Five? six? More! And I wouldn´t even dare to compare the Milan II:s price to the price you would have to pay for Apple:s "most advanced system"... (Milan is not the "most advanced" atari clone, tough; see below)

BUT, I dare to claim that TOS/Magic/MINT is MUCH better OS:es than both Mac OS and dos! (I suppose you know by now, that w95/w98 is NOT operating systems, they´re just shell programms under that so called "os",dos)
I mean, TOS is stored in ROMs inside the computer, making bootup time a tiny fractal of the time it takes to boot the other two:) AND I don´t have to "format" my Falcon´s bootdrive five times a week, and reinstall EVERYTHING, like on my ibm-clone... There´s loads of more advantages, can´t mention them all here...

You´re right, Atari CORPORATION is dead, and has been so for some years.
It doesn´t matter who pays for the NAME Atari, it doesn´t MAKE them "Atari corporation"! Hasbro is a very good example on that...

I agree with you about Hasbro, They seems to only care about games and has no plans to start building new computers :( therefore I don`t think they are qualifyed to own the big "A" name!

Since you´re asking about their intentions;
most of us "enthusiasts" has asked the same... Well, I think by now, we´ve seen the answer?

Now, about "Milan is vaguely connected to Atari"; then they should be connected to Hasbro, right? -I dont think so. I read in a press release about the Milan II, that it was developed in cooperation with MOTOROLA, not Atari ;)

Even if it would be a dream situation, Motorola picking up the Atari mantle, and start creating new TOS-Magic-Mint computers themselves, it´s not likely to happen :( So, Atari is not Motorola, and vice versa.

if you want to see a real good "Atari clone", take a look at Centek´s Phenix 260. With TWO 68060 CPU:s, it will kick a**es!
I´ll buy one, for sure!
If someone should take over the FUJI logo, I´d vote for Centek...
(they also developed the famous CENTURBO, expensive turbo-unit, that turned the Atari FALCON 030 into a PPC-and-pentium-killer!

So, are there just these two Atari compatibles around? Nope!

Here at Flashlabs, Sweden, we have been planning for a couple of new TOS compatibles, for well over a year, now.
The S-STX and TTX (16-16/32 and 32/32 Xtreme) are intended to become unexpensive, powerful and flexible "Atari-clones", maybe with Motorolas 56311 DSP, perhaps a Matrox G400 instead of that "videoshifter" and possibly with MINT as OS...? We´re having a hard time, decideing what hardware to use, here!

(16-16/32 means two 16/32 CPU:s in parallel,
to obtain a full 32 bit bus even in a ST ;)

So, Atari corporation may be dead, RIP,
but the TOS community will remain healthy forever,
believe that, pal.

Regards
Flash @ Flashlabs
