I just found in my box of bits a fairly newish 1.44 floppy circa 98/99 a Samsung SFD-321B.
It has on the underneath a solder pad marked DS0/DS1 and thus open = DS1 and soldered closed = DS0.
I have it working fine on my Mega STe.
I'll pop down to my local PC store and look on their shelf of Floppy drives,maybe some of the new ones still at least have a solder pad.
