Hi there, pal of lotsa names!
Speaking words of wisedom, are we?
I can only agree with most of your statements, pal! Maybe except calling Hasbro a "army of satan", because we donīt know yet if they had plans of new machines at the time they bought the big "A" name, and this might have scared some gigant multinational megacorporations (none named, everybody knows...) who maybe just payed them off, to stick to the games and leave the compo market alone? 50 mill bucks wouldnīt even be a notiseable loss in those corpīs purse, but would sure be far more than enough to stop a small firm like Hasbro from starting a computer factory, donīt you think? Iīm convinced this is what happened, yet thereīs no proof presented so I guess Weīll never know... And such "offers" often comes along with threats like "take this, or..."; we all knows about those corpīs "bussiness etics" way back from the early 70īs, ītil Now: if someone or something threats their monopoly position, they acts! In ANY way... So I donīt know if we really can blame Hasbro for taking it, since they most certainly didnīt seem to have much of a choice :(
(IF thatīs what happened, that is...)
OK, that was MY theory. Hands up, those who believe in it. Now, the song says: "Itīs all ībout the money", and thats what it is about for every commersial company in the world, right? I donīt know how I would handle such a situation, what ībout you?? But I DO know that we all want some new and better computers, and we have been waiting way too long! The tech IS there, has been there all the time, nothing too advanced or expensive to deal with for most "old Atarians". Iīd say: Lets stick together on a worldwide computer-hobby-project without any commersial interests, something like: "Made BY itīs users, FOR itīs users". No company, no president, letīs just make some compos! (and suitable software!) Anyone interested??? Lets hear!
(Its OK, you can take your hands down, now...)
I think such a project could make most "treators" jump back to the scene again, and I also believe it would learn some of those corporations a little lesson, dont you folks think? -They couldnīt buy us off!!! Well, the discussion is up, come on, ATARIans! Iīve started on the common site, donīt wanna finish it alone...;)
(www.???????-computer.com, soon to be up)
Regards
Flash, calling every TOSer around :)
