Yo bud, I hate to inform you, but all you’re suffering at the hands of the Devourer was actually your own fault.
Yo see, the Devourer was actually the games "garbage collection mechanism" in order for the game to function within the available memory constraints, a limit had to be maintained on the amount of items that could be active within the world at once.
So instead of running the realism of the inventory / weight system the Devourer was conceived and integrated into the storyline to solve the problem.
Every time you pass a certain threshold with too many items in your inventory, an encounter with the Devourer is AUTOMATICALY triggered! and it begins to eat items away saving the "One-OF-A-Kind" items for last.
That is why it will eat your new Truesilever Sword, before "Razor-ICE" because you can replace the TrueSilver Sword. I have played Hundreds of hours of AR and Have had only 2 visits from the Devourer and one of them was the scripted encounter on level 1 of the Dungeon not far from the oracle. This is because I get rid of everything in my inventory except what I really need.
