Four hundred quid (did I say that correctly?)is a lot to spend on Atari hardware? I say yes and no. Yes because $400 is simply a lot of cash in and of itself - period. One must have respect for that alone. A separate question is whether it is "better" to spend that money on a slick new PC or on an older Atari computer. If resale value is important to you, the PC is a poor choice. I estimate that a new PC today costing, say, $1000 will in six months be worth half as much if not less. After one year, it will be worth about a third of its original cost and in 2 years, about 10%. Over two years and its essentially worthless: $1000 invested, zero returned. The Atari, imo, will always be worth *something*.
While the PC certainly "does" more if your definition of "do" is to be one's personal hi-fi quadraphonic technocolor virtual-reality multimedia 3D Orgas-matron.
If you need to do practical things with your computer like...say...computing things -- quickly and without fuss! Get the Atari, especially if you ever want to convert your hard earned money back into...money (what a concept). :)
