Hallo Anders.
I know it will take a while, but this is getting ridiculous...
At first, it couldnt find a RAW / LNX partition, so I killed off the Partitions on the IDE and made a LNX one... I was not sure about MiNT and how TOS would see things, but I thought sod it and I'd let MiNT do what it needs to really.
Ended up it seems to still require a FAT C: and a further ext2 partition, and this is fine and preferable, and anyway, my first blast failed miserably... Probably due to the LNX being first and having the ext2 and the C: as the same partition... Not entirely sure to be honest.
I am thinking that MiNT is a lot closer to Linux than I first thought... Time isnt a problem, its me worrying about this bloody falcon being on for so long that is...
At this time, I opted to install everything and so far I have come across 2 failures at installing somehting... Cant remember the first one, tahts was a few hours ago, but the second one, is.... Hang on I will just have a peek... freemint-net is needed by Xserver.
Ok, so I dont cre for the net side of thigns for now, as long as X is ok though!
Oh, the first thing was a docfile - cant remember which, but I dont care about docs either... Not yet.... I am hoping that most *nix commands will be fine as I am ok with Linux.
Right now, this very setup has been plonking along for about 5 hours, and its bugging me.
Remember a while back, I asked about MiNT and oyu helped me to get a simple MiNT setup running on my TT? - well, I thoughth that MiNT was so bloody slow that I never really took to it all that much, and kept to Magic, as I found it many many times faster.
( I still have that very setup backed up to CD and I have used that for my MiNT setup with GEMulator - its slow on that too, even on a fast PC )
People still seem to be taking to MiNT more and more and well, there must be a reason behind that... I am now on my second falcon, and finding it useless for CuBase Sequancing, so I am sticking to my TT for that, and I am going to give the Falcon a fair chance this time, and I have been in touch with Rodolf and I have my name down for the next batch of CT63's, so... Well, if I found MiNT slow the last time, then surely I will find it a hoot once I get 90MHZ wont I?
And anyway, I am only having a play... I am using a Compact Flash card in an adapter, so I can always swap things about easily should I need to.
Hell, my first Gentoo install on a PC was over 4 weeks, so time isnt the problem, its not knowing how long to expect that is!
Supplying the RPMs directly?
So, in theory, I should be able to extract them from the tarball to HD instead? - Thats fine, but EasyMiNT seems to not like it if it cannot find the tars?
I have copied it to HD anyway, cos the CD way obviously is too long.
I am enjoying the whole procedure, even if I am able to walk to london & back between each rpm but I only hope that the end justifies the means!
I hope I wont be too bothered by the speed as I know I wont have to put up with it for too long.
Could you ( or anyone else ) give me an example on what I can expect from it in terms of speed?
I mostly use Magic 6.2 & Jinnee.
The last time I played with MiNT, I had it on a FAT C: Partition and I used MiNT 1.4 and it was in the region of about 3 to 4 times slower than Magic.
Where can I expect this one to be?
My C: is a normal FAT Partition, and the D: is an ext2 partition that I setup with hddriver 8 as LNX whicjh I assume is correct.
I am NOT adding anything other than What easyMiNT is going to install... NAES2 isnt in yet, so, is EM using XAAES?
Time will tell wont it?
Catch you later my good friend.
