LOL
Get this...
I held control and it started the HD and gave me GEM... Ok, cool.
I set about having a look, and found a couple of folders on C:
AUTO
EASYMINT
MINT
Normal I suppose given that I have just attempted an install onto C:(TOS) and D:(ext2fs).
Ok, now, forgive me on what sounds a little thick, but you must realise, that
(A) I have been out of the Atari scene and am only recently getting back into it, so my Atari knowledge has pretty much gone
(B) While I had a play with MiNT, I never got any further than a simple play.
I did however keep a copy ( Several in fact ) of the most successfull MiNT setup I had, which was poor at best.
Now, so armed with common sence, I compared what was on the C: with what was in my backed up install... I saw that the MINT.CNF file asked for no kind of AES app at all, and mine asked for NAES030.SYS...
So, stuff it, add that line in, and just copy my NAES folder over, see what happens?
Blow me, if it didnt give me a partial NAES Desktop... I say partial because, as I was about to find out, I had not changed any NAES config files and it was looking for C:\THING\THING.EXE
Sod this... Chuck thing onto C: too!
Plop!
Wahey! - How simple is that?
I got thing desktop up and running
I also took the opportunity to throw in NVDI, and its gubbins, including the Fonts and the whole of my GEMSYS folder etc, and BoxKite.
Ok, now I have not paid for a legal copy of thing, and I prefer Jinnee anyway, so a quick flick about Chucking the JINNEE folder onto C: and QED sorted NAES to ask Jinnee out, and there you go!
Oh?
Ok, so I have Jinnee up and running, but with a few issues...
1 - When it started it needed to check an unmounted partition, which it seems to have been my ext2fs? - So, it didnt seem to mount the Linux partition then? - Oh? Ok!
Also I seem to be missing windows in that I can open a Disks directory ok, but if I try to open Jinnee's INFO Box, I get an error... Illegal AES Call Opcode 160, then 161, then 163 and then a message saying no more windows.
It only does this in Jinnee
Now get this one...
Just for kicks, I ran GemBench, and had a quick flick at all tests.
Hey, they ran pretty bloody quick!!!!
AH? Riiiiight!
So, apparently, according to GEMBench under MiNT, I seem to have 244% display ( Ok, thats fine ) and yet the CPU scored an incredible 720%!!!
According to MiNT, I do seem to have an FPU?
The FPU score, was 2603%
Cool.
Anyway, I am half-liking this MiNT rubbish. I will no doubt back this lot up too, and I will see if it will still go without an ext2fs partition... I will chuck it onto my TT if it does.
So, ok, I have not yet run anythign to really test it, so Papyrus, CAB and a few others are going in now and I will see what happens after that, but as it stands, I do now have MiNT up & Running.... My next option after this little lot, is to chuck the 1.6 Kernel in and see what that does?
Later.
