Hello,
Can you give us some more info about yor network ?
- What's the speed ?
-How are the connected ?
- Are you only using Powerdos, how is the soft configured ? No need of sting ?
thanks in advance,
Mark.
Sure Mark,
About Powerdos, it runs under TOS/GEM, (1.04 to 4.x iirc), and has it's own setup PRGs. It can use either MIDI or LAN for connect via Phone wire, or a mix of the two, or both. I have it set to use Drive Q: for the LAN Network, so under Drive Q: I see names of ny choosing for the Neworked machines...
Q:\MSTE1
Q:\MSTE2
Q:\FALC1
Q:\FALC2
Q:\TT003
Open any one of those and you see all the Drives/Partitions/Folders/Files on that machine, (well, the setup allows you to choose what you want to show/share for drives, etc. You can also use Printers, (including SLMs), Displays, Modems... practically anything on another machine
Speed... Well, using GFA Interpreter,on a TT to another TT, (not Compiled), it took 49.55 seconds to write 1,024 strings of len 1,024, (1MB=1,048,576 Bytes), or 21,162KB/Sec or 169,296Kb/Sec.
Reading back ONE Byte at a time took much longer... 238.035 seconds, or 4,405KB/Sec, 35,241Kb/Sec.
Copying the same file in UIS3 resulted in 50 seconds, just Drag copying in GEM Desktop also took 50 seconds, Kobold 2.5 took 60 seconds with Verify.
Steno took 64 seconds to load the 1MB file over the Network.
Don't quote me on this, but a few years, (decades?), ago, I think I got 800,000Kb/Sec transfers using something like HSModem, or something.
No, no Sting or anything else needed.
